Blemish-Free, supple and glowing skin is all a person could ever ask for.

Meet Sabina Munshi, a digital content strategist, shares how Baréskin came to life, a skincare range made for island life where the tropical weather can leave your skin thirsty for extra care.

What inspired you to create your brand Baréskin?

Baréskin Singapore, is not only a passion project of mine but it is deeply embedded in the fact that it was entirely created with the feedback of a very tight knit community of mothers. I had the privilege of having in depth insight into what women were looking for in their skincare because of my blog. My favourite part has always been interacting with the beautiful connections I have made over the years through this platform. Easy yet effective and potent was my mammoth task with Baréskin!

What does the idea of beauty mean to you?

Beauty is such a personal thing but yet it doesn’t matter which country, community or culture you are from, beauty truly lies in happiness. Happiness in every aspect translates to beauty in my world. The real glow up is from within and when you are happy on the inside, your skin will flourish too. I promise.

Can you tell us a little about your morning and evening beauty routine?

Let me set the context first. I have 3 kids including a teenager (enough said), a very demanding but fulfilling full time job and a couple of passion projects that get my creative juices flowing. Time isn’t a luxury for me so my skin care routine has to not only be quick but very effective given the fact that I wear minimal makeup on a daily basis.
My morning routine always start with a good cleanser along with a cold water splash to wash off all the residue and tighten the pores. I follow that up with a moisturizing yet mattifying facial oil that doubles as a primer under my makeup. Finally, I finish off with a witch hazel facial mist that sets my makeup, keeps it matte and keeps the skin pH balance at the optimal level so that no breakouts happen. Yes, I choose products that multitask just the way I do!
My night time routine is my favourite way to unwind once the whirlwind day is finally over! Double cleansing is key especially in humid Singapore. Firstly, I use a gentle micellar-water soaked cotton pad to remove makeup and pollutants from the day followed by a cleanser that washes off all the residue. A facial oil along with a cold roller is what works best for me as my next and final step. It has replaced all my serums, essences, moisturizers and lotions and I am so grateful for that.
I spot correct as my last step depending on what my skin is like. For example, if I have a blemish, I spot-treat it with tea-tree oil; If I have open pores then I spritz witch hazel in that specific area or if my under-eye area is puffy I apply an overnight under-eye mask etc. It is important to listen to your skin and adapt your routine accordingly. One size doesn’t fit all and the same routine daily definitely doesn’t combat all your skincare needs.

What is in store for the future?

Baréskin has some very innovative products coming out in the next few months. These products made it through my trial phase and I was blown away by the visible results. That is all I am allowed to say! You have to keep an eye on our Instagram to see what we unravel. Rest assured, all our products will be focused for the face, they will be “clean” , effective and inclusive.

What kind of advice would you have for entrepreneurs who are building a brand in such uncertain times now?

Consistent hard work towards your goal will never go unrewarded, that has been my learning in this journey of building a brand. The glam factor seems very attractive but that comes after sheer hard work, trials and tribulations. Navigating your business during unprecedented times like this has proven to me that once you take the time and effort to understand your customer journey, you will find a way to remain relevant and in business.

Follow your passion but with persistent dedication and you will find a way to make it a success. Guaranteed.

What are your sentiments on this collaboration with WhatWomenWant?

The magic behind WhatWomenWant is the beautiful Ana Paula! She is a woman with a vision and has steered this brand impeccably during the most trying times. Her sheer love for design and all things beautiful comes through in her work and her store vibe. I feel like a kid in a candy store when I am at WWW and it is an honour for Baréskin to have a presence there. This is a collaboration that we are both very excited about and we cannot wait to bring you products that not only excite you but are also good for you!

    * Baréskin products is now available at What Women Want Boutique and online.
